About me

My name is Mark and I started MV Freelance in 2017 as a proofreading and editing company. Since then it has grown to encompass other services and offerings as my skills and abilities have been required by customers.

I have always had an interest in words; be it writing them for my own pleasure, writing them for others as part of my professional career, or enhancing other people's. I have been writing and proofreading reports professionally for almost twenty years in various market sectors, including the defence industry, training, and marketing. I also write for pleasure and am currently half way through writing three separate novels.

What makes me a good proofreader, editor, and copywriter?

I have always had an interest in writing, and am lucky to have an affinity with words; be it in creating my own works, or taking other people's and enhancing them. At university, I found I had the ability to write good quality, technical documents very quickly. This allowed me to eventually get a position in the defence industry, writing and editing technical reports. Since then, I have had various roles creating training and marketing documentation, and am always the first port of call should someone need a CV.

In addition to my professional experience, I am enhancing my abilities by doing a Masters in Creative Writing and taking various training courses with the Soceity for Editors and Proofreaders, of which I am a member. The feedback I recieve from both my peers and tutor is overwhelmingly positive.

My main focus, though, is as an editor; I love making documents look and read the best they possibly can. I find great joy in taking a document where the messages are lost or obscurred, and making them clear and succinct. This role encompasses all the core skills I have learned over the years; writing and cleaning up copy, proofreading, and using desktop publishing tools. Using these skills, qualifications, and experiance, I can help you to make the most of any writing related activity you may wish to persue.

I am also, as you can probably see, a big fan of the Oxford comma!
